Project:
A series of landscapes in oils and watercolors with a Gestalt-based orientation. The landscapes employ structural essentials, yet not at the expense of "visual charms," such as rich textual effects that take advantage of the uniquely saturated colors of the area. The works range from small "alla prima" acrylics on paper done on location to bigger oils repeatedly reworked and developed. The project aims to take up the challenge of the painters who made art history by working in the area. Dangers to be avoided are a mindless imitation of the masters and crass commercialism. Emphasis is on individual vision but not without applying lessons learned from the great tradition of European landscape painting. Subjects range from harbor scenes in Cassis to cityscapes in Roussillon and Marseilles. |
