Project: The Alphabet Sutra, a book of twenty-six platonic-erotic meditations illuminated by twenty-six photographs. The essays/histories were written at a desk by a window overlooking the sea. This setting informed the atmosphere of some of the meditations on an abstract love story. Each story began with the inspiration of a letter of the alphabet: a musing on the different possibilities of «C»; the proximity of «L» to «M»; what it would mean to «B», etc. The photographs were taken mostly with an 8 x l0 wooden field camera lugged around the rugged Cassis terrain (and also used for indoor still lifes). The images were then printed using the platinum palladium contact printing process, resulting in a delicate and refined handmade effect. The photographic work done at Camargo will be the beginning of an exploratory process from which will come the final twenty-six images for the book.
