Project:
The completion of a piece entitled Concerto for Violin and Orchestra. This is a work in one movement, of eighteen-minutes duration, scored for violin solo and 2-2-2-2, 2-2-1, timp+perc and string orchestra, composed for the concert violinist Maria Bachmann. The concerto is a seamless network of variations based on a theme stated by the soloist at the outset and which describes a single over-arching structural trajectory to the end. Also completed at Camargo: Characteristics, a twenty-minute work in 8 movements for piano solo composed for a consortium of pianists. Each movement of the work takes as its point of departure some aspect of the personality of a particular musician-friend. Also completed: Three Cellos (ten-minutes duration). Half-completed: Songs of Love and War for Mixed Chorus, Brass Quintet and Percussion (twenty-minutes duration). A cycle of four texts taken from letters sent to and from the front lines of four wars in America's past: Vietnam War, World War I, World War II and the Civil War, in that order. Revised while at Camargo: Third String Quartet: Claritas. |
