Project:
Composition of an evening-long musico-dramatic piece based on a collection of literary works by Latin-American and British writers, among them Julio Cortŕzar, Juan Villoro, Antonio Skármeta, Eduardo Galeano, and Desmond Morris. The composition incorporates three singers, a chamber choir, a six-member instrumental ensemble (flute, clarinets, piano, percussion, violin, and violoncello), and a narrator. The literary works chosen all look at the subject of soccer as a metaphor of life, war, hunting, politics, and death. The fifteen minute "overture," whose music is the basis for the entire composition, and sketches for several other sections of the piece were completed during residency at the Camargo Foundation. |
