La Hija de la Hechicera recorre el Mapa de los Cuatro Barrios buscando su Tortuga privada/ The Daughter of the Wizard wanders through the Map of the Four Neighborhoods looking for her personal Turtle. Opera in one act for 7 singers, chamber ensemble, video and tape (ca. 70 minutes.) The general idea of my opera is a non-dramatic description of an imaginary Kingdom : it is a visual, aural and conceptual approximation to an imaginary place. The word "cosmogony" synthesizes our aim: the creation of a "world" where music, images and texts are manifestation of this live organism. All the components interplay, having at the same time their own independence.
The creation of these "cosmogonies" are inspired in: the Argentine artists Xul Solar and Jorge Luis Borges, Italo Calvino and his Invisible Cities, Albert Einstein and Rudolf Steiner who created diverse cosmogonies.
The music is related to the creation of a new sound landscape, which depicts a new "cosmogony" by means of the exploration of timbral possibilities and new combination in acoustical instruments. The "soundtrack" of this Kingdom pretends to touch our ears as if the sounds were like water or sand –that means the sounds are mainly treated in a textural way–but also they aim to touch our curiosity provoking the question: how was that sound made? Some clues: The percussionist pours water, drops, peas, submerges instruments, etc; the harpist speaks and sings into the sound hole of the harp, throws ping pong balls, activates a metronome, the trumpet plays with the bell into the water; everything in the frame of a mathematical counterpoint inspired by Flemish and French Renaissance composers.
Some texts:
I.Genealogy (Overture):
The Kingdom is divided in four sectors:
N: Towers
S: Peasants
W: Sorcerers
E: The remainder (including the Zoo)
In the middle there is a void that is always moving.
Hanging bridges connect all the neighborhoods.
It is said that there is a parallel Kingdom in the abyss, where all wishes are granted...once you make a wish there is no reneging.
There is a train that passes through the kingdom once each one hundred years, for this reason if the inhabitants of the Kingdom want to get out, they have only one opportunity in their lifetime.
But nobody has ever seen the train.
